Our Mission

It is our hope and passion to introduce the people of Southwest Florida to the fun and unique game of Australian Rules Football, the national sport from down under that has been played since 1858! We want to explain the relatively simple rules of the modern game so you can enjoy the awesome spectacle as you cheer for your new favorite pro club on TV.

Now, should you want to get out there and have kick yourself, we welcome everyone, men, women, and children, no matter your experience, size, or ability, to come on out as we would love to meet you and to share the techniques you’ll need to excel at this most skillful sport.

In either case, we are confident that once you experience Australian Rules Football for yourself, you will be hooked, just like us! Click on the video below and see what we’re talking about for yourself.

Upcoming Events

Come try your hand (and foot) at Aussie Rules!

Stay tuned as we will be scheduling more open sessions soon or, better yet, get in touch and we can work with you and your group to set up a time and date that is convenient for everyone. We usually schedule our sessions at Waterway Park in North Fort Myers, Florida. We will show you the basics of the game, which only takes a few minutes, and then we will have you practice kicking and hand-passing the ball. If enough people attend up, we can even have a short pick up game. It would be a touch game only, no tackling, so everyone can participate. Men, women, and children, of all shapes and sizes, are welcome. There is no charge for this event.

Club Mascot

What's does charging cavalry have to do with footy?

You may wonder why anyone would choose a Civil War-era mascot to represent a club playing an Australian sport in the balmy waterfront and sunshine baked town of Fort Myers, Florida. Well, first off, it's a bit different from other Australian Rules Football teams, so it has a certain "uniqueness" to it that may come into play should we we ever grow to the point of becoming our own league team. But there's actually something of a historical link involved, as well. So how about a quick history lesson? We will keep it brief, promise.
Long before it was a city, the actual "Fort" Myers was the site of the southernmost land battle of the American civil war. On the 20th of February, 1865, the Union-held fort was attacked by Confederate forces eager to curtail the raids on their crucial cattle supply lines launched from within. These so called "Cow Cavalry" brought with them a single artillery piece and assaulted the Union troops for twelve hours before withdrawing back to their base. Though historians technically consider the skirmish a draw, the Fort Myers, its garrison being partly made up of elements of the 2nd Florida Cavalry, had repelled the enemy. And thus you can see why our little Fort Myers-based footy club can claim a historical connection to cavalry officers on both sides of the conflict and feel that a cavalry trooper is a suitable mascot.
